What is the difference between causation in fact and causation in law under English tort law?

In English tort law, causation in fact is the link between the defendant's act and the damage suffered by the claimant. It is the factual cause of the damage. Causation in law is a legal concept which is used to determine whether the defendant is liable for the damage. It is a legal test which is used to decide whether the defendant should be held responsible for the damage, even if there is a factual link between the defendant's act and the damage.
